Monty's is not necessarily an encouraging name for a Nepalese restaurant. It's in Ealing, very close to the Ealing Park Tavern. However, I discovered today that there is a branch inside the Waterman's Art Centre, the arthouse cinema handily located about 150 metres from where I live. How many arts centres have a Nepalese restaurant?

Fun weekend with John and Paul. Ate too much. Had a pizza for lunch in Ask in Chiswick. We were back in Chiswick for a dinner at Fish Hoek, a South African fish restaurant. Pretty damned good. Mussels for starters followed by hottenhot and butterfish. They do half portions for mains so that you can try more different kinds of fish. The hottenhot was amazing. I shall be having that again! I'm going again in two weeks so I'll get the chance. The menu is extensive so there's a great deal to choose from. The dessert (chef's selection) was good, especially the mango sorbet. All washed down with a fine pinotage and a glass of tawney port (is it actually legal in the EU to describe SA port as port?).

Went to the Ealing Park Tavern with Paul today. John and I are hoping to persuade him to get a LiveJournal account. Venison followed by apple charlotte. The EPT is doing its best to wrest the title of best gastropub from the Anglesea Arms.

Went to Chiswick and bought some PS2 games that support the steering wheel I bought yesterday. It's a real pity that games like The Getaway and GTA:VC don't do this. Colin McRae 3 does though and, yes, it is easier with the wheel! Not much though. Oversteering is a still a very real issue. I suppose I'll get used to it. But did I leave the handbrake on, I wonder. Still, good fun. Oddly, the brake actually puts the car into reverse.

Walking in Waterman's Park I wished I could afford one of the penthouses with a terrace and a view of the Thames and Kew Gardens in my apartment complex. Never mind. When I'm a highly successful author of lager sagas I'll be able to afford to live somewhere like that(!)

Hmmm. South African restaurant in Chiswick. Has the Springbok Cafe/Springbok Grill/whatever changed its name again?

And no, technically you shouldn't describe the South African fortified port-style wine as 'port' in the EU. On the other hand it usually tastes better than its European equivalent, if you are comparing like price-brackets.

Me? Biased? Well, maybe a bit. ;)

There are now two South African restaurants in Chiswick, both owned by the same person. The Springbok Cafe/Grill has been renamed Dumela for some reason and Fish Hoek is a new fish restaurant. I'm going to Fish Hoek again in a fortnight (with a South African!). Must go to Dumela really soon too.
