A Fiver or Two

I got two fivers among the cash I got out of a Barclays cash machine in Chiswick the other day. It is years since I can remember getting a fiver out of a cash machine. I can only hope that this "trend" continues in 2011. (Well, it won't technically be a trend until I have got fivers from two other cash machines, preferably non-Barclays ones.)

I believe that the BofE has asked for this to be done...

Ah, yes...

The BofE have always been asking for this. The banks response has been that cash is a loss leader, they have no interest in increasing their costs by providing machines that deliver a wider range of notes and frankly we should be grateful to tenners along with our twenties.

Personally, I would like 5 pound coins.

I don't recall how big actual £5 coins are, but I think they are rather bigger than £2 coins, which are quite large. Would a large, heavy £5 coin (more holes in your trouser pockets!) enjoy significant popularity among the businesses and the general public?

Made of shiny, shiny gold like they used to be.
