The War Zone

Apparently, London at the moment is under a threat comparable to that of 11 September.

I don't think I'll go home tonight.

Or perhaps I should seal myself into my flat with three days bottled water and a case of Heinz baked beans with pork sausages.

My new flat is directly under the flight path into Heathrow.

Great.

And this has nothing to do with druming up support for the war on Iraq. Nothing at all. Of course.

Well, in all fairness, if that is possible, it probably doesn't have all that much to do with Iraq. The ongoing increase in Al-Q activity post 9-11 was to be expected. It's nothing we haven't lived with all our lives anyway, so I do find it hard to get worried. I was more concerned flying Lufthansa than I was by any potential terror activity.

J'attaque, j'attaque

Well, B&B have gone to great pains to stress the Iraq-al Qaeda link, helped by the recent tape from "OBL". Interesting, that TWoT has shifted from getting OBL to getting Saddam. Why? If OBL *is* still alive, the war aims of the invasion of Afghanistan failed. It's all gone strangely quite in that area.

I agree that further al Qaeda attacks are inevitable (Mombasa, Bali) and that they probably don't care much about playing to B&B's or Saddam's timetable, but it's very convenient for B&B to whip things up a bit at the moment. There may be a serious threat to Heathrow, but it may or may not merit the claim that it is comparable to 911 in magnitude. Without access to MI6 intelligence sourcves, we're guessing.
