Service Economy

I went to the Post Office today. You might think it would be possible to post letter there. Not if you want it to arrive guaranteed on Monday morning. They don't offer this service after 12:00 on a Saturday. No wonder the Post Office is in such a state. I thought we now lived in a 24x7 economy. That's what Tony Blair's policy wonks keep telling us. Obviously, the Post Office doesn't think so though. I'll have to hand deliver the damned letter now.

Went to Rez's Italian restaurant in Covent Garden last night. It's a typical Covent Garden restaurant. The food was perfectly OK. I had calves liver. Not as good as Cafe des Amis, much less The Salt House. There are so many restaurants around there, why bother going to one that's merely typical? Anyway, I'm not really a huge fan of Italian food, faux or otherwise. I'd rather stick to Anglo-French when I can.

I've got to do some ironing.

How unutterably bizarre; we went to Rez's last night too...! Didn't see you there but then we went fairly late. The monkfish was very nice indeed. We'd never been there before, the friends we were with suggested it...

Mel,

we were there from ~19:30 to ~21:30.

Don't get me wrong, the liver I had was good, just noy quite as good as I've had elsewhere. My companion said her pasta shells were good. I had a grappa with my espresso. I've never had grappa before. Very "A Farewell to Arms" I felt.

We got there ... oh, maybe 21:00, so we would've overlapped a little. Sounds like you managed to leave before I set fire to my napkin, anyhow (I put it down on my plate and it overlapped one of those silly little candle things)

It struck me as a pleasant enough place but not necessarily somewhere I'd hurry back to. There are enough restaurants in London that I tend to prefer to try new places...

Maryse will be happy to know she's not the only person to set fire to her napkin like that :-)
