Drawing Down the Moon, a dating agency (http://http://www.drawingdownthemoon.co.uk/), generally considered to be the most upmarket and prestigous agency. I was a member for several years. They are not the most professional outfit though and have failed to remove my profile from their books even though my membership should have lapsed over 18 months ago. I still occasionally get a profile from DDM (I need to lose 15 kg before I go on another date). It is possible (if unlikely) that the woman who lives on my staircase has recognised me from the profile book. Whatever way, I've yet to receive *her* profile! Anyway, she reads "Metro".
Bugger prestige, having looked at the website they certainly wouldn't be my first choice if the weasel went under a bus. Their "star" or "example" members seem to be picked on the basis of who would make the best Sunday supplement write-up, not who would make the best other half. Mind you, if Kimberley Quinn ever joined a dating agency I bet it'd be that one ;). It may be that the website gives a false impression, of course (standard disclaimer).
But "just started boxing training" (great! a bloke who likes hitting people!), "Spends Saturday mornings at improvisation classes" (the I. C. words are bad enough, but - UP ON SATURDAY MORNINGS? What sort of mutant is this person?!!), and "a passion for cooking and plans to open his own restaurant in the future" ([cough - nutter! - cough] - has no-one ever told him that catering is long hours, low pay and high stress - hellooooo, reality check?) - well, the word that comes to mind is "bargepole!". A dating website that brings out the latent "talk to the hand" and "As If!" streak in me - now that can't be good.
I cannot help but be reminded of the Simpsons episode where the recently widowed Ned starts dating again. They all sound a bit like the indicted Wharton lady!
Well, I imagine that he sees himself more as the proprietor of the restaurant than working in the kitchen.
Yes, the website doesn't really sell it. http://www.loveandfriends.com is their free internet dating site and probably gives a better idea of what on offer out there. L&F has worked for me and when I've lost 15 kg I will be back on there. I'll probably rejoin DDM at some point too. Dating is a numbers game.
Though - and maybe this is just me - are the blokes slightly less mad than the women? Perhaps I should check out a few Manhattan sites to see whether it's just demographics...
I'll admit that I don't spend much time looking at the compeititon. Dating agencies generally have more female than male members (not that this seems to work in my favour). Whether that means there are a higher precentage of mad women than men, I'd wouldn't like to say. I will say that most of the women I've met haven't been *obvious* mad. (An exception was the owner of the bar in Herne Hill.)
What's DDM?
