From Stamford Brook to stamford

Went to Stamford for a meeting of the Skyros writers' group. Stamford is quite a charming place, lots of pubs, bookshops, Georgian buildings and a river perfect for punting. Oxford University was briefly removed there during the Middle Ages. It's where the Brazen Nose of Brasenose College comes from. Certainly, Stamford would make an excellent Oxford replacement. There must be AUs were the university never returned to Oxford. It would be interesting to write a story in which the protagonist realises he has slipped into a parallel universe when he comes across the Stamford English Dictionary.
